Rujtuyaniy is a piece about inner conflict. The piece begins with a display of contrasting ideas, as the rhythmic relationship between the two players feels unstable and conflicted. This leads to a moment of tender introspection and fear: the trumpet plays in its lower register, and the piano delicately weaves around it. When both parts slowly find their way back to each other, the piece erupts again in rhythmic fervour, ending in a bold exclamation of the opening musical material.
